The opening cut, "On Your Marks", just bounces. Those early Cecil Taylor records,
they just bounce. When you combine personal vision with a thorough understanding of
tradition, this is the kind of thing you get: sideways stabs at recognizable intervals
here, chin nods toward past piquant melodic leaps there. The eight tunes here are
originals, yah. But jazz originals are different than other kinds of originals:
they have legs. Legs that bend at the knee to stretch not strain the rhythmic backbone".
